関口あずさ/Azusa Sekiguchi

Born and raised in Tokyo, Azusa is a graduate of Tama Art University, where she specialized in Japanese painting within the Faculty of Fine Arts. Throughout her artistic journey, she has been an active participant in performances, installations, and collaborative projects that have left a mark on the vibrant Japanese art scene.

During her third year of college, Azusa expanded her artistic horizons by studying at Aalto University in Finland. This experience exposed her to the diverse perspectives and contrasting artistic values prevalent in Scandinavia compared to her native Japan.

In 2016, Azusa immersed herself in the world of Ukiyo-e, a traditional Japanese art form dating back to the 17th to 19th centuries, involving woodblock prints and paintings. Her unique interpretation of this genre caught the attention of the Tokyo Design Week "Sharaku Inspire Exhibition."

The year 2019 saw Azusa's paintings, crafted during her time in Finland, featured in the Acrylic Gouache Biennale. Subsequently, in 2020, she ventured into the realm of office wall art production and contributed to the "WHAT CAFE POP UP SHOW with 100 ART" group exhibition.

From 2021 onwards, Azusa has embarked on a collaborative journey with Canadian beatmaker Demsky. Her Japanese painting skills were enlisted for the design of his vinyl jacket, and she created a series of six inspired artworks corresponding to each track on his new album.

In 2022, Azusa expanded her artistic endeavors by joining forces with Itabashi city in Tokyo as a creator within the local community. Following her contribution to the design of an organization's logo, she took part in a public live painting performance during the city's festival.

The year 2023 marked another milestone in Azusa's career as she received an invitation from UNIQLO Itabashi city Hasune branch to collaborate on a line of T-shirts and tote bags. Presently, she is deeply involved with local craft coffee makers in Japan, lending her talents to logo designs, event planning, and various creative projects. Azusa's commitment to bridging cultures through her art continues to thrive, making her a dynamic and valued contributor to the global art community.
